The UAE has now enacted a new federal Personal Data Protection law (PDP law) to regulate the processing of personal data in the UAE. The law was announced as one of the 50th anniversary projects in 2021. The PDP Law brings the UAE’s data protection regimes under one umbrella and take into considerations modern global data protection and data privacy legislations, such as: Europe’s General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), California Consumer Privacy Act and Personal Data Protection Act (PDPA) in Singapore.
In this CIOMajlis event, we delved into the key provisions of the law, its impact on businesses, and the steps organizations need to take to comply. We discussed the foundational principles of data protection, explore the role of advanced technologies in safeguarding personal data, and address the ethical considerations of data privacy and user control.
